Keeping Performance Brakes and Rotors Looking Great

    Hello Everyone,

Yesterday I purchased a car that I just love - a Camaro 1SS / 1LE. While I typically do all my own detail work, I’ll be having the paint ceramic coated, as I had this done on my previous vehicle and loved the results.

This being said, the car has very large brake calipers/rotors and I love the way they look – and I’d love to keep things looking the way they do in the attached photo.
Can those of you out there recommend techniques/products to add to my weekly cleaning regimen to keep things looking as they should? Links are appreciated if applicable.

    Thanks a million!

Woolies, lug brush, and make sure you get a good wheel cleaner that is powder coat safe if the calipers are powder coated. I also use the lug brush, small sponge, and foam paint brush for the calipers.

I haven’t done it, but how about coating the wheels and calipers also.

It should make your maintenance easier.

Keeping Performance Brakes and Rotors Looking Great

I have a 1le as well and I will say good luck with that! Haha

I hate stepping on the brakes after cleaning the rims because the brakes dust like crazy.

A good assortment of brushes and I like the foam finger pockets for getting in the books and crannies..

If you keep up with it I like the meguriars professional rim and tire cleaner D14301

Change your brake pads to ceramic or carbon ceramic. You will not have any brake dust. The calipers are easy to keep clean. I just use Meguiar’s Hyper Wash and a speed master. No issues at all.

For maintance cleaning I like Sonax Wheel Cleaner Plus as it's an effective yet gentle. The meguiars d143 seems to be a great choice too and a little more cost effective. Since I live in Sweden the meguiars is way higher than you get it so it's cheaper for me to the Sonax.

SONAX Wheel Cleaner PLUS 5 Liter

Their is a 25 liter refill too and maybe start with a spray bottle first to see how you like it.

A ceramic coating to apply to the parts of the rotor the brake pads not touching and on the calipers. And to the wheel too so you get them easy to maintain. You can coat other parts in the wheel house since dlux can be applyied on most surfaces. Carpro dlux is a great ceramic coating with many different surfaces you can apply it too.

CQuartz DLux Plastic & Wheel Coating

For cleaning eqiupment to wheels you have wheel woolies and speedmaster products.

    Speed Master Wheel Brush

    Wheel Woolies Car Detailing Brushes

A great kit that is on sale

    Wheel Woolie Brush Maintenance Kit

When I already give you some links I throw in a great tire kit too

Just some products you can go with. But there is many great options available. The most products is at a high quality that is offered on AGO. It could be worth to test small bottles of products and see which you like and go from there when you find one.

When it comes to keeping performance
    brakes/rotors looking great, there are
two things that has made my life easier:

    1.)
Hyde's Serum Rust Stopper, rustopper, anti-rust solution for wheels

    2.) Carbotech brake pads (#1521s—YMMV)

You may want to consider coating the wheels to make them easier to clean.

CarPro DLUX as mentioned is a good option. Gyeon Rim is another option.

Re: Keeping Performance Brakes and Rotors Looking Great

Thank you to all! While I had planned to coat the wheels, it hadn't occurred to me that coating the calipers was an option. Everything will be coated (including the wheels and calipers) later this week. I'll be picking up a set of those brushes too. Thanks for the links and responses!

A set of Carbotech brake pads are on the short list for both my Camaro and my wife's Lexus. That Lexus produces more brake dust than any other vehicle I've ever seen.
