Re: Topping AIO’s with Sealant - Basic test

This is very cool, thanks for testing. I'm quite surprised by the results. Especially topping with a WOWA, as you're not "working" the sealant into the paint. The only thing I can think of is 2 hours isn't enough time for the AIO to fully cure and crosslink in order to accept another layer. Then again I know nothing about the chemistry so I could just be making stuff up. Personally for an AIO I don't top it same day, it usually goes until its next wash to get a layer of WOWA sealant. This reminds me of the posts where people were "topping" Essence with various coatings and seeing failures under a year. I'd be curious to see what the AIO's would have looked like stand-alone if you only sealed the bottom half of each strip.

Re: Topping AIO’s with Sealant - Basic test

Speed uses a soft wax, very likelly why it reacted that way.

Meguiars AIO are simply amazing, D166 in particular does everything you would want it to perfectly. The only downside to it is the price. At 150 CAN$ per gallon, it's as expensive as the best Compounds. But honestly, the ease of use and results it gives both in terms of defect removal and ease of wiping off justify the extra expense. Also it is supposed to be very durable, which is a big plus for an AIO.

As for your test of topping, I am curious to see the results over time. My guess is that the wax bases AIO like Speed have been removed by the solvants in the sealant you topped it with. For the sealant based AIO, I am not sure, probably the same but hard to say.

As a side note, I usually do a final wipe with a Quick detailer after applying an AIO. Right now I am using Meguiars Last Touch D155. This stuff is pretty nice (but way too expensive LOL). Before that I did the same with Xpress Spray Wax D166. Not sure which I like best, both great products.
