    Re: Sealant comparison

Without re-reading all of this was Optimum Car Wax included in these tests. Just wondering.

Nice curious on the 10 min paint sealant. Wish there was a way to send the megs ultimate fast finish (uff)

I can try to get some. Megs is generally more readily available. There are probably another 20 or so fairly common product I may (or may not) get to.

Just a FYI on Collinite. Had to wash the Wife's Sienna this morning after the rain went thru Friday and Saturday. I have 845,885,476 and 915 spread out on different panels except the hood which has a combination of 845,885 and 476. All the panels beaded like the day I applied 3/15/2018. In the looks department 915 has a slight (very slight) edge. We have had a run of temps 110+ for a while and the Monsoons are coming so we shall see. I did see some comments on testing some of these so I am just throwing into the mix, not to take away from your experiments

This is great. Always happy to see what results others are getting. Please keep us posed on how this goes. Based on my experience with Collinite you're going to be waiting a while to see one of these stop sheeting.

    Re: Sealant comparison

Been longer than I expected to update. I did a couple of tests but didn't get a chance to post. If you just want to see results jump to the bottom of this post.

Sentra hood two weeks ago animation. You can see that none of them are performing much better than the area with no sealant. I was ready to call these done.

Sentra hood one week ago animation. I decided to test it one more time and it's pretty clear the Aquawax/Fast Clean & Shine combo is still working. How did it get better a week later? The only difference between these two tests are that this one took place when it was warmer out, and I waited about an hour after drying the hood to test it. Shocking that this is still working and is outperforming the Reload/Ech2o combo. Duragloss Rinseless as a QD is fading and I'll call it done. This lasted surprisingly long time.

So what's going on? I have fairly soft water. You know how it's hard to get soap off your skin when using soft water? Same thing here. I found a while back that drying vs. testing when still wet gave me better results. This leads me to believe that some time to air dry after towel drying may be helpful as well. I think there are quite a few sealants I'll need to retest. Interesting that some of these seem to be more sensitive to soap than others. I'm guessing here and am open to other ideas for what's going on.

Rover hood two weeks ago animation. Rover Hood one week ago animation: Too hard to see on the white hood. Like the Sentra, this also got dried and had about an hour in the sun before testing. SFX-4 in the top left is outperforming everything by a mile. Water is flying off it almost immediately.

I tested the Rover hood again today. Washed with N-914 rinseless, dried, and let sit in the sun for a couple of hours:

    Working well
    SFX-4 - clearing 100% of water in ~4 seconds

    Working ok
    Mystery Sealant #4 - clearing 100% in ~20 secs
Four Star - clearing 100% in ~25 secs
    3M synthetic - clearing 100% in ~30 seconds
    McKees's Fast Wax - clearing 100% in ~35 secs

    Barely working
    Dodo Supreme - 80% in 1 min
    BF Carnuba - 50%+ in 1 min
    303 Spray - 50% in 1 min
Griots Finishing Sealant - 50% in 1 min

Very slowly or doing nothing (these are clearing < 50% in a minute)
    Rupes 808
    Prima Hydro
    Griots Spray Wax
    Nanoshock
    Prima Slick
    Poorboys Sealant w/carnuba
    Megs20
    Poorboys EXP
    HD Poxy

    Re: Sealant comparison

Updated graph. I'm getting better results when drying after washing and letting them sit after drying. Some of these will get a retest. At this point I can say the results are accurate relative to each other for the test conditions. Some of these may show show longer absolute duration in a re-test. And there's summer vs. winter exposure to consider as well.
