Milkshake on center console and controls WWAG Peeps do?

Taken from another forum I'm on whereby someone asked about what to do. My initial reaction was don't bring it to me

IMO, I'd take the console apart and use some contact cleaner or warm distilled water in a sprayer with some brushes and a shop vac. to pull out as much shake as possible. The real problem is part of the the MMI and Push to Start buttons are covered.

    Can't fix stupid.

I don't even allow an open bottle of water in my truck.
It is no coincidence that man's best friend cannot talk.

Take it to the dealer. Too much electrical/electronic going on inside that console.

I personally wouldn't touch that, it's not worth the risks.

No worries. I literally wouldn't accept that job. Been there seen that before and ironically on an S4 like mine and they had to have several switches replaced. This appears to be an A3-A4 platform.

I'd offer to fix that on one very big condition. Liability waiver, signed, and hourly rate to disassemble, clean, and reassemble. BTW, on second thought no way would I want to disassemble the dash/console without some manuals telling me where ever fastener is located.

One of my co-workers spilled some sticky drink on the steering wheel of one of the brand new fleet Explorers last year. One of the radio/DIC center steering wheel switches started sticking, weird huh

Luckily Ford replaced it under warranty. If I was Ford/dealer I would have said "not covered".

I would tell them sorry go get that stuff replaced then I can detail the rest of the vehicle if they still want.

Re: Milkshake on center console and controls WWAG Peeps do?

What would I do? Probably cry a little.

From my experience working on these (as an Audi/BMW technician, not a detailer), that's pretty much a death sentence for each switch/button that got covered.

When the first MMIs came out, at the dealer we were disassembling and ultrasonic cleaning the plastic portions of the switch gear when people spilled stuff in them, but the electronic portions ended up getting replaced.

I guess if someone were mechanically inclined you've got nothing to lose taking it apart and doing your best, but brace the pocketbook for new parts. If nothing else, you'll care more about cleaning up the disaster under the console (in the carpet and such) than a dealer tech just throwing parts in.

Looks like an A3 to me? Don't those have the capacitive touch on top of the MMI wheel?

Well, I guess I would classify this as mostly a Protein stain, vs Tannin, unless it was a chocolate milk-shake.
But odds are most of the ingredients are protein... You have to be careful (should you take this on).

    Meguiars D116 Protein Stain Remover

If you’re a professional detailer, chances are you’ve encountered milk, food, or pet urine stains on carpet or upholstery. If you have, you know how difficult they can be to remove without damaging the delicate fibers of the carpet or cloth material. Meguiars knows this, which is why they’ve introduced a specially formulated cleaner for protein stains – Meguiars D116 Protein Stain Remover.

Meguiars D116 Protein Stain Remover is a concentrated formula. You can use this amazing cleaner full strength, or diluted up to 1:10 for spray application. Regardless of the dilution ratio you choose, rest assured Meguiars D116 Protein Stain Remover will not harm the material.

Meguiars D116 Protein Stain Remover is even safe for microfiber interiors!

I think I would try a 10:1 ratio in a spray. I would NOT Tornador this as you do not want all those protein particulates flying everywhere from both a health standard, or getting it over more areas of the vehicle not affected by the spill.
DO NOT use steam... Steam will activate the proteins and make matters much worse! Cold water only.

That's what I would do.. I'm assuming good German Engineering here, so hopefully there are some good seals around the console and buttons to protect from the usual water or coffee spills.
