    Mustang trunk plastic trim

On the 2017 mustang trunk lid there is a piece of plastic trim where the badge sits. This is of course where you will grab in order to close the trunk meaning scratches and swirls especially after the salt from winters roads.

So so has anyone ever dealt with sometime similar or this in particular? Recommendations?
Let me know if pictures will help and I'll post some.
    Thanks for the help.

    The forum always likes pics.

    Re: Mustang trunk plastic trim

The piano black trim on newer Fords scratches very easily. To remove scratches use a polish and softer/polishing pad. Keep it sealed, coated, or waxed. Most importantly, keep it clean. Here is the catch 22 with the trim. Cleaning the Fords trim improperly will scratch it worse than leaving it dirty and not touching it. Remember just touching the trim with you fingers will eventually scratch the trim's soft finish.

If you are driving in the winter I would look at getting the trim wrapped with a Paint protective film (PPF).

We have had success polishing this type of trim with Essence and then coating it with DLUX. If you do polish it with Essence, you must wipe all residue off after polishing. We like to wipe it down with Eraser to be sure there is no residue left. Be sure to wipe off gently and with a high quality MF, as noted above, this stuff scratches very easily.

Yes, that's it. Be sure to use a very soft polishing pad. I've found that CarPro Gloss Pads work best.

I polish mine like I do paint. It's then coated with Cquartz DLux.

I have a '16 GT, you can buy a strap that attaches on the inside of the trunk lid to pull is closed so you don't have to touch it.

I always found it easiest to use my backseat floor for storage when I had a two door Grand Prix. But there are times that you need a trunk. Hauling a golf clubs being the most important. Ford should offer an assisted opening and closing trunk just so you guys don't scratch that trim
