Does layering a sealant under a wax really improve the looks?

    Hi there,

I am looking at detailing my metallic red Rx8, but was hoping to get some advice on whether it was worth layering some sealant under my LSP to improve the looks?

    I plan to,

    Wash
    Clay
    Blackfire Gloss Enhancing Polish
    Collinite 915

I am wondering if putting a coating of Blackfire's Wet Diamond down prior to the Collinite will actually make any difference to the final look? Or just to longevity?

I chose the Collinite 915 as I needed a long term wax to protect my daily, but am also wanting to make the metallics pop as much as possible. I also have Poorboys Polish with Sealant to hand - would it make metallics pop more than the Blackfire products?

    Thanks in advance

Alot of ppl put wax over their sealant. Some swear by it some do not. It certainly cannot hurt. Try it and see what you think Post up pics

Edit: I've used wgdgs with fuzion over it and loved it. lol I love anything over well prepped paint.

    •I prefer Sealants on metallics...
    without topping them
with any other type of LSPs.
    -(That includes Waxes)

•Finish Kare 1000P is one of those
    preferred Sealants.
-Here it is being displayed on a
    variant of "Red metallic":

    Keep in mind that:

•Proper paint prep is the basis
    for proper metallic paint popping.
-Below is a quite proper article that
    addresses this aspect of detailing:

Thanks for the input guys, I guess Ill lay some BFWD down before the Collinite and see how it looks!

Interesting perspective about sealant vs wax on metallics FUNX650, I have used both BFWD and Klasse AIO/SG before on properly preped paint and don't recall either selant particularly 'poping' the metallics. Your pic looks amazing - maybe I should have gone with the FK1000 lol.

I thought I would give the 915 a try as Collinite recommend it on metallics and I wasnt that taken with the sterile gloss look that the Klasse gave me previously (blown away by the logevity I got from it and the KSG spray wax 'recipe' you gave me though, 12 months and its still beading!)

    Hey mate,

I cant speak for all product combinations but Ive used poorboys exp sealant under nattys paste wax and I did notice a difference. After I let exp cure for 24hrs it had a very glassy/glossy look to it. I went ahead and applied nattys white over the top and it definitely improved the depth of the paint. For all I know the solvents in the wax may have broken down the sealant so I couldve just been staring at the wax layer alone. Im fairly sceptical about layering in general in terms of providing extra protection. I put on two layers of lsp just to ensure I have good coverage.
Collinite 915 should be ok on its own to be honest.

My first love for wax over sealant is Blackfire Wet Diamond All Finish Paint Protection and Midnight Sun Ivory Carnauba Paste Wax.

This "look" coined the phrase "Wet-Ice Over Fire". BLACKFIRE Wet-Ice Over Fire Combo

I've had good luck with BF Midnight Sun Spray Wax over PNS.

From my limited exposure to layering - it makes sense to me to use a Spay Wax (like MNSun) or one of the other Spay Detailer vs another full on wax/sealant as the toppper....

It did on my car. I have a 2008 Ford Focus and used DuraGloss 111, Then a top coat of Collinite Liquid Insulator Wax #845.

Also the rain beads much longer as I don't wash my car all the time. Only about 2 or 3 times in the summer.

Great pic. Have you thought about reversing your process? The DG#111 is made to shine and should be fine over the Collnite.

Re: Does layering a sealant under a wax really improve the looks?

I mainly use Meguiars Ultimate Liquid Wax after a friday wash, remove then let it cure and the next day (garaged) I bring it out on the sun inspect to make sure no dust has landed, if so I would gently swiped with dry microfiber to get these off then start a light waxing process with wolfgang fuzion or pinnacle souveran. I dont know whats in the wax, but it brings out the depth on the car especially in shady areas for instance driving the car in and out of shade you notice a pop! This wax is kind of pricey however, I wonder if the same stuff is in the signature series ii quite cheaper wax. I love this wax because it goes on so easy and wipes off effortlessly. I can wipe off with eagle edgeless towels which are normally good for spray waxes due to the high piles. Its not too good using this towel with the sealants that harden however...Something in this wax makes the car look dripping wet.
