    Compounding/swirl removal/ polish/ seal

    Hello everyone!

Quick question. Paint correction for fun as a hobby, but I want to know if my process is over kill. This is for severe paint correction. Maybe with a little touch sanding here and there.

1.Heavy cutter/compounding with a Makita rotary closed foam pad
2.Heavy cutter/compounding with a Flex 3041 closed foam pads to remove swirls
3.again with the flex but using 3M swril remover with a medium cut pad
4.back to the Makita to machine polish
5.back to the flex to polish again hitting swirls the rotary might have left.
    5. Seal by hand with wolfgang paint sealant.

Please keep in mind after compounding I did complete a alcohol wipe down.

Thank you for the advise... to much? To little? Always looks good, but I'm spending huge chunks of time on single panels.

Looks great and who cares about overkill, working on paint like that requires multiple steps and technique and product selection.car was done right and that's all it matters great job.

I'm a little worried about how much clear coat you must be taking off, but the results are great! And yes, fixing that much damage takes a lot of time.

    Do what you gotta do.

Personally, I like to do few steps as possible - if I'm on a job. If the vehicle is at my home shop, I don't mind taking the time - but I have to be compensated for it.

I wonder if the same result may have been achieved by stepping up to foamed wool on the rotary for the initial cut... Then just two more steps for refinement and finishing respectively...
    But great result... Compounding/swirl removal/ polish/ seal

Do a test spot starting with least agressive.

    Normally 3 steps is plenty.

Compound with LC Orange Pad will remove most defects.

    Then polish and coat.

If that doesn't cut it then move up to wool pad and heavy cut compound.

looks like it needed everything you threw at it ! nice job. do a little test spot with a little less effort & see where it ends up. but I'm guessing you got the right procedure.
