Pad priming questions and speeds and more questions

    Hello guys!

I wanted to double check a few things.

I have been using HD SPEED with my Rupes 15 mk2 and Rupes pads. I having not been priming according to my understanding.

    Is this right?

Also Rupes polishes and compounds is not to be primed too correct?

Is this a common practice for long throws or am I wrong?!

What about products like WG Total Swirl remover?

    And Meg M105 and M205?

For the above products with the 15 mk2 what speed setting should I be at?

As always, Mike and the group have great advice on this. I'm interested in what others have to say as well.

Re: Pad priming questions and speeds and more questions

I never prime with product. I start with four or so small dots around the outer circumference of the pad. From there I place the machine on the paint, and turn the machine on speed 1 or 2. This allows the liquid to spread itself around the pad, then I spread the polish over the working area, and begin my buffing sequence. I don't encounter dry buffing because I always make sure that there is a light film of product to buff on. Any initial ill effect of dry buffing early in the process is negated as the polishing sequence ensues. Then I clean the pad after every, or every other section is complete.

I get the concept of the KBM style of pad priming, I just never found it beneficial for me. Probably because I use pads with pretty open cells, and all the KBM would over saturate the pad. With foam there is so much less surface area when compared to microfiber, and we're talking about compounds which are usually laden with abrasives. As long as the pad is damp with the liquid, you can be positive abrasives are in that dampness. Especially when you rub you fingers together, and feel the "dryness" of the abrasive between your finger tips. You might not even see it, but toucan feel it.

I also follow manufacturer directions. For instance: on the bottle of M105 it says to prime by misting M34 on the pad - for rotary use. It doesn't say that for d/a use, so I follow that guideline.

Re: Pad priming questions and speeds and more questions

With a all in one like hd speed i never prime, due to the wax properties in the product.

I would like to ask Mike Phillips about this as well, to hear his thoughts and outlook on that.

With AIO's the pad gets clogged faster then regular polish, so i for one dont use a KBM style of prime like i usually do.

The other times i always prime 100% the face of the pad, so 100% of the pad is working for me.
