Car Covers: Rain, Snow. Best Car Cover and How About 2 Car Covers?

I've been researching car covers. I live in a very rainy area. I have no ability to cover the car with a garage, etc. I've done some research and come to the following conclusions:

    • Cheap car covers are a dime a dozen.
    • Cheap car covers can scratch a car.
    • Car covers don't seem to have very good insulating soft properties.
    • Car covers need to breathe to allow moisture to escape from the surface of the vehicle.

Here's where I'm at. I have an idea to use 2 car covers. One indoor satin car cover that is BREATHABLE as the first layer. And then over top of this, an outdoor car cover.

    • I will have the outdoor car cover sewn onto the indoor satin car cover
    • I will spray the outdoor car cover with a silicon waterproofing spray to make it extra water resistent and waterproof

Here are the two products I could use:

    1. Sparco Satin Indoor Car Cover | Canadian Tire
    2. Autoglym Car Cover | Canadian Tire

    Any thoughts?

Why are they a waste of time?

If you place a cover on a car that is dirty or even dusty, you will scratch the finish.

^^^^^This is why they are a waste of time and effort.^^^^^

And they will do more harm than good if taken on and off on a regular basis, except maybe for long term storage.

'Scuse me for being contrary, but I'm like the OP. It's either cover when you can or mass quantities of bird crap and tree sap. Once the car or the cover gets wet, or the car gets too dusty, then no cover, but until then I'm willing to risk a little swirling. It's not like I won't wash, polish, wax and repeat frequently. :-)

I have an indoor car cover but I do know a little about car covers in general and yes, you will get what you pay for. In general, I would recommend any outdoor cover that is made of sunbrella or similar material. Good boat covers are made from sunbrella and have good breathing properties. If you have ever been around a marina..yes - birds. What do birds leave behind...crap! What gets all over your boat cover...crap. What are good boat covers made of...sunbrella.
