    Air compressor

So I'm contemplating ordering the tornador but before that I have to do my HW on air compressors... Any recommendations? I know nothing about them... Brand, psi, etc...? Thank you all in advance

    Re: Air compressor

I have a 6 gal Pancake compressor and borrowed a friends tornador and it did not work. You'll need a 20+ in my opinion. Plus CFM is what you're looking for I believe.

    Re: Air compressor

There's a thread on here where someone did a test on a few air compressors with the tornador black. He used like an 80, 60, 30, and 6 gallon air compressors. The 6 gallon barely worked. in that thread he recommended at least 10 gallons, with the appropriate CFM.

Also, another user on here i think has a youtube video of him using the tornador black with a 10 gallon harbor freight air compressor. It worked for him bc he worked a smaller section at a time. i guess it just depends on your workflow.

i personally like to use the tornador (when i do use it) pretty heavily to take full advantage of having one to use. i have a 20 gallon 5+ CFM @ 90psi air compressor. It works ok. at work i use a 27 gallon and that works better. Basically, the bigger and more efficient the air compressor, the better the tornador will work for you. Less waiting for the air to recharge.

idk, just rambling. i do know that there are atleast 2 old threads on this exact topic that helped me on my air compressor/tornador dilemma

Most air tools come with a list of specifications and requirements. Doesn't the Tornador specify the PSI and CFM requirements? These 2 numbers should help you choose a competent compressor...........always choose larger, not smaller..

For optimal performance, the Wolfgang Tornador Car Cleaning Gun works best with an air compressor that produces 5 CFM or more at 90 psi.

    Re: Air compressor

    IMHO...For maximum performance:

You'll need (at the minimum) a single cycle, single phase...15-20amp, continuous-duty compressor...making at the outlet: 10 cfm @90psi.
    {13-15 cfm @90psi is better (additional future air tools)!!}

The motor HP and tank capacity will be "sized" accordingly.
    Vertical/Horizontal choices.

    -Ingersoll Rand
    -Quincy
    -DeWalt
    -Chicago Pneumatic
    -Porter Cable
    -Many others

    Re: Air compressor

I just bought a HF 21 gallon ioil fileed unit. I think this is right up there with the HF DA. Do your break in runs as it states and I love it. easy to put together also. I even put a coat of sealer on it just to help it stay nice. compared to my 15 yr old craftsman , this thing is a whole lot quieter!
