Do they still use radar detectors in the 21st century?

Wow. Please do not go off this recommendation. K40 is a joke. That thing can't stop a single LIDAR gun produced in like the last 5 years.

You almost had me, until you recommended a Radar Roy site. That man has zero credibility with any serious enthusiasts. His reviews are for sale to any company that makes radar detectors. Whistler often takes him up on such offers. Whistlers a marginally better than Cobra or Rocky Mountain Radar.

Max 2 is a decent unit, but the best windshield mount escort makes is still the redline. Auto mode, TSR on, Band segmentation enabled to at least 2/5/8 only on, and X band off is the key to a quiet in town experience. Flip it over to highway mode for interstate travel and it gets a little chatty passing through a town, but not bad. . It's also invisible to the spectre radar detector detectors that Virginia and DC use.

    Re: Best radar detectors.

9500ix in the daily driver and I have an Escort 8500ci Plus in the toy. Both are GPS equipped which is awesome for storing known sites like speed signs and automatic door openers etc. Knowing the locations of red light cameras and fixed speed traps also helps.

The 8500ci is an installed unit. Sensor is mounted in the front fascia and the unit is completely hidden when installed except for a small (2"x1") display. The sensor on the front gives you the best reception. Unobstructed view of the front. Not even a windshield in the way. Where it sits in my install the sensor is in the center of the car's front grill which is where police target for Laser and Radar detection. It is BY FAR the best detector I have ever owned and has saved me a number of times.

It is also undetectable by the detector units used in Virginia and DC so when I've hit the mountain roads there, I've run with the detector on. Plenty of warning and there is nothing the police can detect. Since there is nothing in the windshield, there is nothing to see.

I have another project car being done and a 9500ci is going into that one and the current 8500ci will be swapped out on the current toy. Well worth it.

I've got a Redline and a Max. The Redline will give you more warning, but the Max has a lot of cool features the Redline doesn't. If I am doing a road trip with the family or running around town, I bring the Max. If I am riding solo on a highway run, I bring the Redline. Both have paid for themselves numerous times.

Valentine One is what I chose to protect me and boy has it saved my butt a few times. The arrows are helpful. It all comes down to preference, Yes the Passport has this and that and costs more than a V1 but the selling factor to me is the arrows. I don't need to know that a red light camera is 500 feet away as I don't run reds. Ever.

    Re: Best radar detectors.

There is a newer passport max that does have the arrows similar to the V1 but is far less chatty. I have an original max and it serves me well even tho I usually keep cruise on at 9 over which seems to be the breaking point around here, 10 over will usually get you stopped with just a warning and 11 will usually get you a ticket. Even last night I was coming back from the hospital and went through a radar trap at 64 in a 55 with no problems.

Two weeks ago my son and I went to visit my daughter who lives a couple hundred miles away and I let my son drive since he is really in love with my Audi, but anyway on the way back he got up to around 90 and my max went off and he asked what ka ment and all I said is it's a cop which just saved his a$$.

I also run with EL and waze.
