    How to Finish Garage Walls

I just finished dry-walling my garage. What a pain in the butt! After all that, I'm thinking I'll just hire somebody else to finish off the walls with plaster. This is completely new to me. What kind of surface will work best for a garage? I keep my garage relatively clean and well kept, so I want it to look good. I probably want it to be white or a light color so I can keep it bright in there. Eventually, I want to epoxy the floor and add an organization system.

Any suggestions on the type of plaster style? Is there some sort of alternative to plaster?

Just paint the walls with an exterior white semi gloss. Then paint some kind of stripe around the perimeter.

I have this in my garage. It makes it much neater and easy to clean as well.

You could use FRP (Fiber Reinforced Plastic) panels. They come in sheets. The ones I've seen are white with a bumpy, textured finish, very glossy. Kinda pricey, but you could wash with a hose and detergent.

Or like WAXOFF said paint. Use semi-gloss and it will be easier to clean and more refective than a flat paint and waaay cheaper than FRP.

You're talking about a plaster skim-coat? Like you would do inside an expensive house so the walls look smooth with no sheetrock joints or nail/screw heads showing? No one does that in a garage AFAIK. Or are you talking about a stucco finish? I have that in mine and I hate it because you can't keep it clean.

As others have said, just use an exterior grade semi-gloss paint and you should be good to go. You might want to put a "chair rail" around the wall if you think you're going to be hitting it with car doors or tool boxes or detailing carts.

This wall is drywall and was finished off like the interior walls.

06 Diamond plate chair rail added on the paint seam for looks.
