I have harbor freight 12v Water transfer pump issues

Hello I'm new here Ive been running a harbor freight water transfer pump from my 100gal water tank to my ryobi 3000psi pressure washer. After it sat for 1 month unused, my pump transfer the water as usual unhooked from the pressure washer but as soon as I connect it to the pressure washer it sprays out the washer for 5 seconds then stops sending water. The whole time I hear it working but it acts as if it don't have enough pressure to send it. Thought the pressure washer had a issue so I connected it to the house water supply and it works perfectly. I'm looking at a more expensive pump currently. The seaflo 55 series with higher GPM. Just wondering what the issue could be before I buy a new pump. Should I maybe warm the pump up with my heat gun?

    Welcome to AGO.

I'm not familiar with any of the HF 12v transfer pumps. What type of impeller does it have?

    Diaphragm? Rubber vaned?

If the pump is running, I would first check that you have the correct polarity (positive to positive, negative to negative and the motor isn't running backwards). Sounds dumb, but I've seen worse......

After that, I would check the impeller.

If it is a vaned impeller, remove the front cover and inspect it for broken vanes (blades).

If it is a diaphragm, remove the bottom plate and check for cracks or extreme hardness of the diaphragm.

Perhaps you are getting cavitation due to a fluctuation in the supply pump's flow rate ? The supply pump is low rate in comparison to the PW's high rate pump, thus the PW is getting "starved".

No clue on the impeller. But yes polarity is good. It's still hooked how I been using. I didn't winterize it in this cold weather. Maybe it has some performance loss. But like I said it still consistently supply water until I connect it to the pw. I will stop complaining and just buy the seaflo 60psi.

If you let the pump freeze, you most certainly will have performance issues. As in no performance at all. Lol

I'd look into ShurFlo or Jabsco pumps as well.

And make sure to run non-tox antifreeze through them before storing......

I did a quick search for reviews of a shurflo pump that I may be interested in. The seaflo I'm lookin g at is rated 5.5 GPM and 60 psi. The shurflo is rated 1.8 GPM but 100psi. Im thinking a higher psi in this case would be better right? Plus the prices of both is within 5 bucks
