Wash and wax and then adding ceramic wax question

If you wash a car with Dawn Ultra to get off the current wax and then clay it, which provides more protection? A) Adding a single layer of ceramic wax (like a Turtle Wax or Meguiar's) or B) washing again with a Meguiar's Wash and Wax and then adding the ceramic wax? I'm wondering if the weaker wax (wash and wax) would allow the ceramic wax to break free easier or if having two coats (one with wash and wax and then the other with ceramic wax) adds more protection?

Re: Wash and wax and then adding ceramic wax question

First off, Dawn Ultra will not remove anything. Dawn is for getting greasy food residue off of dishes. It will not remove wax.

However, claying will remove all wax completely.

As for your question, adding a ceramic spray to bare paint would be a better option than adding it over something like Meg's W&W which is one of their "consumer" products. That is, it is just a car soap with gloss enhancers.
It is no coincidence that man's best friend cannot talk.

Dawn Ultra will not remove wax as Paul stated above

    However

Loach (Waxmode) has shown that Dawn Platinum Powerwash will strip car wax

Dawn Powerwash Strip Wash Test vs. Zymol Carbon Wax - YouTube

I actually tried it a while back without knowing about his video and it will take off a combo of OCW, 3D Poxy, and 3D Speed so I have to assume it will take off other "waxes"

As always, your mileage may vary

Thanks for the replies. I'm sure things have changed from over a decade ago when I last researched this. The Dawn Ultra was only from some directions I received from using Zaino products. Thanks for the recommendations on what truly takes off wax.

Agree with the others regarding the order of which wax to apply. Anything in the wash/wax soap will be minimal and is really only there to provide a little extra shine. Depending on the product, it might actually prevent the ceramic wax from adhering to the surface of the paint properly. When I've used Wolfgang's SiO2 Paint Sealant, the instructions actually say it must be applied to a clear surface.

The most durable product should always go on the bottom, in this case the ceramic wax.
