Dark edge line above 3M tape used on vent shades applied to paint

After removing some vent visors/shades that were applied to the paint (Not In Channel) on the truck I bought I have a dark edge line which seems to ne just outside of where the 3M tape was. Working by hand with some mild polish it barely lifted any of the dark line.
I am thinking I need a deeper polish but unsure at this point. Input please!

    Can you provide a picture?

Did you try an adhesive remover first? It may sound strange, but you might be able to remove leftover tape goo easier with something like 3M Adhesive Remover than polishing it off.

I frequently de-badge my vehicles either totally or partially. After removing the badge and as much of the adhesive/tape by hand and a plastic razor blade, I'll then hit it with adhesive remover or Goo Gone to clean up what's left. It's only after those manual/chemical steps are done will I hit the area with a polisher.

Have you tried claying the area?

Wonder if it’s dirt that accumulated at the edge of the adhesive tape and got kinda buffed into the paint from the tape moving from the force of the wind pushing on the visor/shade?

Yes, rubbed off a large amount with glove then applied Goof Off and that brought back a shine,. but a thin dark edge still remained.

I was thinking it was a line of dirt as it was just above the edge of the tape. My thought was Goof Off should have taken that off, but it didn't.

I have used Goof Off before, it works well. DE badged several trucks using that. Didn't help.

Depending on the material left behind and the age I've found 3M Adhesive remover works better than Goof Off
