    Clear Coat Wheels

    Hey Mike,
I called myself searching and no results that I could find. What would be the repair process for minor scratches on clearcoat wheels or should I just follow same process for removing them just like clearcoat paint.Do the clearcoat have similar thickness as the paint clearcoat?.This is a 2011 year model wheels and make is F150 Platinum.I might be able to get a picture if you need a visual. I just barely can detect this scratch with a baggy test.
    Thanks in advance

Can you see the scratches or they just feel rough with the baggie test? If it’s just rough, you probably need to decontaminate with an iron remover cleaner like Iron X and/or clay bar the wheel.

I'm sure if the OP said he has minor scratches, he can see them.

To the OP, treat the scratches like you would the paint on your car.

I get that, but the OP only said he can detect them through the baggie test. He never said he visually saw them. Just trying to clarify. I don’t do the baggie test to find out if I have scratches, I do it to see if I have contamination. I use my eyes and lighting to see if I have scratches.

Then you should have suggested using lighting.

Sorry for just asking a question to clarify to try to help out a fellow forum member and make sure I was answering his question properly. Just trying to help, not trying to start an argument

No problem, but the guy was asking about removing scratches on this clear coated wheels and you want him to decontaminate his wheels. In case your not aware, claying and Iron X will not remove scratches.

I know claying and decontaminating the wheels will not remove scratches. Re-read his original post. He talks about having scratches, but he says the way he detected them was by the baggy test. When people are talking about the baggy test, it’s to determine if there’s contaminates on the paint. So I asked a question to clarify his description. And then I added the Autogeek link to help him further answer his question including compounding/polishing if needed.

Think that the op don't feel the scratch with the fingers but when useing a bag he does feel it.

Test to treat it like paint. If it's hard to reach with a polisher you can use a mf applicator pad and some compound to see if it gets enough cut.

You got it! If he can take a photo, he must be able to see it.
