    Scratch removal and detailing questions

    Hi Everyone,

So our new car got it's first scratch, I'm quite new auto detailing as we've only ever owned used cars so I guess it's never seemend like a big deal but this is our first new car and I want to do it right from the beggining.

It's a 2015 Kia Soul in Alien II paint which is a pearl metallic green, I think the paint has a really nice luster and the car looks great when it's all shiny, which with the winter having just passed hasn't been the case.

We were helping a friend move and as no good deed goes unpunished we were loading a piece of glass into our car and he did'nt lift his end up high enough and bashed it into the rear bumper which is plastic. Attached is a photo of the resulting scratch, there is a 1" faint scratch going upwards from the deep scratch which you cant really see in the photo but I think it would buff right out as its fery faint. The scratch you can see, however, seems to be fairly deep as it catches your nail.

So I guess my first question is, how can I make that scratch disappear?

Next, I would great appreciate any advice on detailing the car. We cant afford to drop a fortune on detailing products so so we have to be smart about it.

Who makes good but inexpensive detailing products? Are any of the readily available products such as Armor All considered decent?

Is there a good car polisher that won't break the bank?

Are there any specific steps I need to take with the particular paint? Or is it still just wash, clay, polish, wax?

    Thank you kindly in advance.

If you can feel it with your nail it's too deep for polishing out...

I know but there are methods for getting rid of deeper scratches I'm sure.

If it is all the way through the paint and you can catch it with your nail, it won't polish out as mentioned. Your only option then would be to touch up and feathersand it into the surrounding paint following by compound and/or polish to remove sanding marks.

Or have the whole bumper repainted.
