That's gross figures though..convert it to net and it's lower..or even revised net of 2005..but a couple bolt-on and it should make factory specs to the Wheels

No offense taken. This was the first V8 powered stick shift car he ever owned. Always had small foreign compacts with 4 poppers. He would smash the pedal and just spin, had no idea how to control it. Took him a while to learn, he is a good guy in his 30's, taught him a few tricks and now I will still take him off the line but once he hits 3rd he is gone. Shelby is nice, I respect it. My car is from a different era and he respects that too.

He bought the car new as this happened quite a few years ago and still has it as a daily driver since his newest toy is a Boss. This guy went from Subaru's to Audi's to muscle Fords in a short time. I think he caught the bug for speed but he is getting engaged so I can see him getting more domesticated.

Not sure what it convert to today
Pre 1972 GROSS figures are 20-25% more than 1972+2005 NET figures

Gross was pretty.much no accessories , net added accessories to engine dyno

I know some stock Pontiac big blocks chassis dynksed at 150ho to wheels

    150 whp...LOL!

This is why you see high 14's and 15's with those cars at the track or "heartbreaker" as it's called sometimes.

Since we're talking drag racing here let me float this out to the group. I have a modified 2013 Fiat 500 Abarth, lots of bolt ons but stock turbo, injectors and downpipe. These cars run low 15's stock and I have NO plans taking it to the drag strip but I do wanna "humble" someone with a 69' Roadrunner. The tale of the tape with it is this, 383 4 barrel, 727 torque-flite and stock rear end, I'm guessing 3.08-3.23. I looked up what the car runs and it says 14.7. I know these guys will laugh when I challenge them to some "door tag" but I feel I've got a chance. One thing working against me is the low first gear in my car (it's a 5 speed manual). My car can blow the tires off in 1st gear and on into 2nd, so I need to keep my cool. I also plan on a 1st gear rolling race too.

What do you guys think? BTW stock versions of my car have dyno'd 155/165 and it's "rated" @ 160/170 and cars with similar mods that I have are knocking at the door of 190 hp, some even 200 whp. I know about bench racing and all but my car really scoots, a true hot hatch.

    Re: 1970 Buick Grand Sport

Pre 72 most HP ratings and such were taken at the flywheel. Now this is what I was told and I do believe it. 72 and up HP was measured at the rear wheels through all the accessories so to speak. That is why the pre 72 models always looked good on paper with the HP ratings.

Now you add an auto trans to the mix and you loose 20-25% off the engine rating, then you figure in wheelbase, rear end gears and tire size and put that on the dyno and you will see what the true hp is. Of course a little tweeking and such and you could have a decent runner. How your car is timed, carb jets etc all can give or take away hp if you do not know what you are doing.

Klasse Act, just go for it. These new cars are pocket rockets compare to the old. He may get you off the line due to torque, which you do not have in car due to your engine size and such. Torque launches the car and Hp keeps it going.

But with your short wheelbase and plus the fact that you are going from a rolling start(I would do 25-35 mph) for your car since that should put you close to banging 2nd really fast whereas if he has a 727 auto and has a 3.08 then it still should be in first which would prevent the auto kickdown working. BUT if he shifts manually then that may be another story.

Heck I don't mess with Wrx's, I can get them off the line but once those babies spool up, they're gone
Its embarrasing but like I said you can't beat new technology.

    Re: 1970 Buick Grand Sport

This is why resto-mods are soooo popular! My favorite car in the world, or any other, is a 1967 Corvette Sting Ray coupe' in Goodwood green w/ white stinger and sidepipes. The entire underpinnings would be all modern, 17" Torque Thrusts, flush glass and modern 4 2 7 s/b from a C6 ZO6 and 6 speed, of coarse.

I always need to pinch myself at this point 1970 Buick Grand Sport

I agree whole heartedly on the resto mod. I keep saying someday I will do that to mine because parts would be more readily available and it would be a heck of a lot faster and would ride trouble free with better gas mileage.
