Weird Black Marks on Exterior Paint, Need Advice on How to Remove Them!!

    Vehicle: 2004 VW Touareg
    Color: Reed Green

Background: Wife came home, told me there were some "black marks on the car". Looked at them really quickly, just assumed it was some kind of road tar or something.

Washed the car.... they didnt come off
Used a light buffing compound and buffing wheel... they didnt come off
If you run your finger nail over them you cant even feel them.

It is only on the passenger front bumper, passenger fender, and the passenger side of the hood. So it looks like she drove through something, or something was spilled on it, as if you look at the last picture the overall shape looks like "splatter/drip" marks. However when you look up close (pictures 1 and 2) you can see that each "splatter" is made up of several smaller black marks.

Wondering if anyone has ever seen this before. Blemished paint drives me nuts, so this is killing me. I used a very low abrasion final stage leveling wax (AutoMagic BC-2) with a wool pad as I didnt want to get too aggressive with it, and usually thats all that it takes to knock off light stuff in the past, and it was the only thing in my arsenal I had on hand at home today. However this black stuff isnt even budging. I am a bit worried that whatever landed on the vehicle, did some permanent damage. However I thought it best to consult with the experts here before pulling out my hair.

    1. Anyone have any guesses what this is or what caused it?
    2. Any suggestions on a line of attack?

I have several varying stages of Meguiars rubbing compounds I could try, they are just not with me at my house right now. However, I wanted to ask all of you your thoughts.

    Thank you for your time.

    Thank you all again!

give these a try, spray and let it soak for about a minute or two and then wipe off with some agitation (if you can feel any of it above the surface then a plastic razor blade might help as well). it may take a few applications...
