Protective film over diamond plate problem
I am detailing a Chevy truck that has aluminum diamond plate bed caps, tailgate caps and tool box, the owner did not remove the protective film that was on the pieces when delivered. The film now has stuck itself to the diamond plate, (been on there for several years) it has peeled/flaked off in small areas reveling the shinny plate underneath. I can chip away very small pieces with my fingernail but I'm trying to think of something I can remove it easily without damaging or dulling the finish underneath.
Any ideas?

Has no one ever come up against this type of problem?

Try using a pressure washer. If that doesn't work try using a torch or heat gun. If you have never used a torch or heat gun then don't do it. Also try goof off and saturate the film. Let it dwell for a bit and then try removing it by hand.
