1978 Blue Bird Wanderlodge Bus RV Paint

The bus is a beautiful classic that still sees allot of use. I think the paint is thick enamel over galvanized steel. It is very oxidized but looks good with a coat of wax. Wax doesn't last very long and is a HUGE job to apply.
Can it be clear coated and is that practical?
I was considering using #7 glaze then a polymer sealant if that will save the paint and make less work in the long run.
I am not afraid of hard work, but keeping up the finish on my baby is wearing me out. What would you suggest?
