    Paint correction question

    Hi fellow geekers,

It was my first time trying out meguiars 105 on a 2002 Chevy suburban yesterday. I tried it on a yellow hex-logic pad from CG. I did a 2x2 section and it seemed that I got hazing and micro marring on the paint I got like buffer trials, similar to what you get with a rotary buffer. Wonder if this is suppose to happen?

    Re: Paint correction question

I've never used Hex-Logic pads but it sounds as if you might have worked the product too long or used too much....

Oh yeah and I also washed my pad before this and dried it but when I got to my 3rd section pass, it seemed that the pad was making the polish into water and I was confused because the pad was pretty dried and I only primed it with a very fine mist of water

    Re: Paint correction question

I would think you worked it too long. I use hex logic foam as well. You want to stop the DA as soon as the polish flashes that is when the polish is done. You may have dried buffed if you went past the flashing stage. Yellow hex-logic is the highest cut foam. You may have started with the orange first.
I have only used a yellow pad a few times and that was mostly spot polishing when the orange could not correct a few spots.

You have to do a test spot trying different pads, possibly polishes, work times, & techniques to figure out what exactly is going on.

Maybe 105 is too aggressive? Maybe the pad is to aggressive? Maybe you don't use enough downward force on you last passes? Maybe too many passes? Maybe your paint is soft and that's just how it goes with M105?

105 can be pretty aggressive. Have you tried using a softer pad? How did you prime your pad?

I think you guys are right with the pad selection. I went with the heaviest cutting pad from CG and I actually switched to an orange pad and there was no hazing with 105. And I primed the pad with one spritz of water with 5 dots
