1974 Rolls Royce Silver Shadow - what are these marks?

Here is the car I'm working on. '74 Silver Shadow

Pretty sure it's not original paint! Looks like a base clear system.

    Test spot:
Wet sanded with 1500 grit 3M Trizact sanding sheet on an air powered 3m Orbital sander
Followed by 2000 grit Abralon sanding pad
Didn't completely level the paint but verified it is a base clear system

    Removed sanding marks with
Meguiars 105 on an orange Lake Country CCS pad with a Flex 3403 rotary
Followed by Meguiars 105 on an orange pad with the porter cable 7424

    This is what happened

It's tough to see, but it looks to be not quite as deep as a RIDS but deeper than most swirl marks I've seen.
They are all over the test spot. Looks like thousands of random scratches in semi-circular arcs. I am pretty sure they were not there after sanding.

Any idea what those are? How did they get there and how should I get rid of them?
I tried to work clean, swept the floors, made sure the ceiling fans were off, watched out for any stray debris during the process.
Also, they were brand new pads. I just opened the bag and went for it. Maybe I should have cleaned them first???

    The products I have
    Meguiars 105 and 205
    Meguiars #9 swirl remover
    Meguiars Ultimate Compound

    Wolfgang Total Swirl Remover 3.0
    Wolfgang Finishing Glaze

3M Perfect It III rubbing compound

Lake Country 6.5 CCS pads - orange, green, white and black
Lake country 6.5 flat pads - yellow, green and blue
Hex Logic 7.5 self centering pads - orange, green white
Meguiars maroon cutting pad and polishing pad

    Flex 3403 rotary
    Porter Cable 7424

Please help!! I thought my technique was good and I tried to work clean. What happened?

The paint was in horrible shape. I did wash and clay the car first. The pink clay came out black! The owner said he has not had it detailed in several years. After the cloying, I could see the paint was clearly abused, scratches, swirls, oxidation, stains, you name it. I figured the best route was to sand it sense it would be in a car show this week.

Those are pig tails from your orbital sander.

up, sound like pig tails to me too. Clean your stuff.
and why are you chasing 105 with 105? Sounds like your doing to many steps.

According to my research, these are pig tails

That is not what my paint looks like. It's not one curly q type line. It looks more like this
1974 Rolls Royce Silver Shadow - what are these marks?-imageuploadedbyagonline1368625610-270190-jpg but not as bad. There are a lot fewer and they are more spaced apart.

What's the best way of getting rid of these?

This was probably caused by something in your equipment. Scratching as you worked a long the panel. (Little tiny rock?) probably on the DA.

Looks like it can be buffed out.

Did you post another picture? Those 3 don't look like pig tails, but just swirls.

The pic of the red paint is one that I found on here showing pigtails. Mine didn't look like those.

I tried the Meg's Ultimate Coumpound with the orange lake country pad and the Flex rotary. It worked really really well. I was able to do in a few passes what I had been trying all day to do.

I will post some pics this evening.
