If you DO clay, you should:
-Wash
-Dry
-Clay
-Compound (if necessary)
-Polish
-Wax (because a pre wax cleaner isn't necessary as the polish does that?)
Correct.
And if you DON'T clay:
-Wash
-Dry
-Pre-wax cleaner (just purchased the Griot's)
-Wax
Is that correct?

Correct.

Also what is a simple polish by hand? Is SwirlX considered too much by hand? I prefer Meguiar's but whatever you guys can suggest as an easy to use Polish by hand would be awesome. Thanks!
SwirlX is a Fine Cut Polish that can be used by hand or with a DA Polisher. It will do a great job of cleaning the surface of any impurities and/or old wax and light oxidation and very light or shallow swirls depending upon your technique.

When I was younger it was easy to get caught up in doing as much as I could... now it's about doing what's appropriate for the customer and the car...

That's good to know. And that's why I try and break it down. That way once I understand what the customer wants or needs, I can process how to tackle that job. A LOT to learn here, but I am slowly starting to take it all in!

Although I don't speak english better than you guys, this site helps me a lot. I learn many things here.
As for the paint cleaners, its up to personal preference I guess. Whether it need or need not to use it after polishing (before lsp). Use a corresponding paint cleaners - lsp is the safest bet while not using paint cleaners won't kill either. Right guys?

As a personal habit, I try not to use the word stupid... not in life, not on the forum...
So I alway say and type,
Keep it Simple Simon...
My posting history is long already and I expect it to be around after I'm long gone and I want it to reflect well on me... (no pun intended)
