Repainted parts, do they have clear coat? is polishing repainted parts same as polishing the original paint?

    Sorry for the long title,
    So the issue is:
Some Body shop owner warned a friend of mine that if he polished the parts that have been repainted in his car they will "loose their gloss and protection and the paint will be destroyed in a year or 2"

i think his claim is not true as i defiantly have other experience.

but my friend insisted i make some deep research in the matter.

    So what do you think?

I think that's not a body shop I'd want to take my car to.

Usually a car is refinished in the same way it was painted from the factory, but we've all heard stories about BC/CC cars having panels shot in SS, and SS cars having panels shot with BC/CC.

As far as the specific comment, it might be true if you used some old school rubbing compound...it shouldn't be true as a generalization. If the person quoted was talking about a specific car he did...then it sounds like one he screwed up and knows more about it than he's letting on...or he could just not know what he's talking about...we've also heard lots of stories about great painters who don't know anything about polishing...

    Same idea as i had,

Either the painter did a sh... job or he has no idea.

    Thanks for confirming!

Or they topped it with some kind of glaze or sealant to hide a hack cut and buff job....may not want you to see whats under it???
