buff and shine ROTARY xtra soft 3" backing plate

yes, I bought this for my Griots G8 random orbital polisher and of course, it doesn't fit because it is for a ROTARY tool, duh. Is there a way to make it fit or should I just return it or give it away?

Autogeek sells a Buff and Shine DA adapter that might work for you.

Looks like it should work... But the description is wrong.

Here's the errors on the product page description...

- "Turn your dual action polisher into a rotary polisher!"
That isn't happening.

- "The 5/8 inch thread fits securely into your dual action polisher"
All of the DA polishers I'm familiar with have a 5/16"-24 mounting boss.

- "Buff and Shine 5/8” x 11 DA Adapter can be used with the Porter Cable 7424 XP Polisher, Griot’s Garage 6 & 3 inch Random Orbital Polishers, Megiuar’s MT-300 Polisher and any other polisher or buffer that accepts a 5/8” inch thread"
None of those polishers listed will accept a 5/8" thread. Each of them has a 5/16"-24 mounting boss.

- "Use Buff and Shine 5/8” x 11 DA Adapter to convert your 6 inch polisher to a 3 inch spot polisher..."
This is only true if you also have a 3" rotary backing plate.

Basically, there are several errors throughout the description. By the looks it is simply a 5/16"-24M to 5/8"-11M adapter. The 5/16 end fits your DA and the 5/8 end fits your rotary backing plate.

i would use the correct one (below).. i'm not a fan of using a rotary backing plate with an adapter on the DA. IME, they come loose and there is the potential to cause damage if it flies off...

There's no good reason to use a rotary buffer backing plate with an adapter on a dual action polisher when you can get a dual action backing plate and cut out the middle man.

I have a Griot's 3" backing plate, the vented one pictured in the link in post 4, that came with the G8 machine. When I am polishing the batwing fairing on my Street Glide (Harley) the pad stalls or chatters when I try to polish the concave area, requiring me to hold the pad at all kinds of angles to get it to keep rotating smoothly. It works better with the thicker Griot's pads, and works not so great with the thinner Boss pads. That's why I was looking at the Buff and Shine backing plate, which is flexible around the edges. I guess I could try a 2" backing plate and pad for this area, or maybe a slower polishing speed....
