Like Mike says... It sure isn't adding any wax and the opposite of adding is removing.

I can't speculate how much wax is being removed by your clay mitt, but I can guarantee that your wax protection would last longer sans the mitt.

It isn’t recommended to use clay on a coated car due to marring so I’d say that same advice would apply to a sealant or wax. Many say they won’t use clay unless they plan to polish and I’m in that camp as well.

As mentioned by John, aka 2black1a, here's what I do and say,

When I get questions like this, for what is normally an very OCD demographic population, (detailing people), I FRAME the topic in EXTREME hypothetical questions like this...

Will using a synthetic clay mitt remove car wax off my car's paint?

Rubbing a synthetic clay mitt over a waxed surface won't ADD any wax. What's the opposite of the word add?

    Remove

It's called, micro-abrasion and yes, rubbing ANYTHING over a waxed surface will act to remove or micro-abrade wax off the surface. Heck just washing your car with a clean, soft wash mitt and a quality car wash shampoo will micro-abrade wax off the car.

From experience it will also mar the paint. Mar is the kind, fluffy feel-good word for scratch.

I've gone back to detailing clay. I rarely use any of the polymerized clay substitutes any more unless the situation is right.
