New Avalon
My mother in law’s 2021 Avalon in ruby red has the thinnest paint I have seen 50 mic. And in some places as low as 30 mic.
my wife’s 2019 rav4 has 100 to 105 mic. And I thought that was thin.
I want to use rupes fine polish uno pure on the Avalon. I thought I thought it through and ordered uno pure
now thinking about it I know it’s pad dependent so having 2nd thoughts.
should I just use a paint cleaners for it’s 1st polish
thanks.

Re: New Avalon
May I ask what type of paint depth meter you are using? 50 microns is mighty low. 80 microns was the lowest I ever seen fresh from the factory.
I am wondering if the meter needs to be calibrated. Did you test the accuracy of the meter against the shims that came with your meter?

Much to our chagrin,
The bean counters yell:
Put the paint on thin!
Aww...What the hell:
Make It Even Thinner!!
(The bonus checks are in.)
•I determine the type of abrasive-product (if
any) to initially use, according to what the
“swirl finder” light source, and the obligatory
“test spot” indicates about the paint’s condition.
•Even so:
-If I find myself overly concerned about the
paint’s thickness, I’ll definitely start out with
very mild products—something in the realm
of 3M Imperial Hand Glaze, or Meguiar's
Ultimate Polish/M205.

Did you recalibrate prior to measuring? If so.... it is definitely dangerously thin. Take a reading on the door jam and see what it is. Generally, the door jam will have the thinnest clear on the vehicle. The difference between the door jam reading and avg exterior reading is a ball park of how much clear you are working with.
As FUN had mentioned... A glaze or an AIO with heavy fill-in capability would be your best bet.

Re: New Avalon
Apologies for any delay, I've been a tick busy....
There was this,
Pictures and Comments: 2021 February 3-Day Detailing Bootcamp Class
Followed by this,
Pictures: 2021 Boat Detailing Class - SOLD OUT!
And a ton of set-up before both classes and clean-up after both classes. Heck I'm still not done cleaning the garage after the boat class last weekend.

RUPES UNO Pure is an ULTRA FINE cut polish.
If it were me? I'd use it. You'll get the benefits of a polish and a paint cleaner.

Re: New Avalon
Must have had Mazda paint it.
IMO use CarPro Essence and a polishing pad and then put two layers of Ceramic on it.
