Rupes blue vs foamed wool pad with Marine 31 compound and polish

Hey Mike and Happy Holidays,

I did read this latest article (above) and was reaching out before I order.

I am using a DeWalt DWP849X 7”/9” Variable Speed Rotary Polisher with a 3M wool pad with 3M heavy duty rubbing compound.

I have these pencil sized white spots that finally started to come off after applying lots of pressure to the painted hull.

Obviously my wool pad is filling with paint so I decided to get your professional help to my problem before I order.

My chat from Friday they recommended I use Marine 31 as well.

My Cyclo Orbital polisher did not get the spots off with the green pads. So I am wanted to know how much pressure is needed or is my approach with my 3M product not sufficient and how many wool pads are necessary.

I do have the foam pads and different colors if that helps and the 3M Compound is aggressive and will scratch the hull if put on by hand but does come out with pad. My concern is to much heat and what happens if I go overboard!

Hi Greg,

Today, Thursday, December 3rd), is my first day back in the office after some vacation time off. AND - I'm shooting new content for TV the rest of this week and next week plus our LIVE detailing class today at 3:00pm.

Point being, I'm not going to have a lot of time behind the computer.

Before I can try to help you with buffing out your boat, I need to have more information.

What kind of boat?
What size of boat?
What kind of paint? Is this paint from the factory or has someone else painted the boat?

Do you mean GELCOAT or PAINT?

HUGE difference.



Also - can you share some pictures of the BOAT and the white spots?
