How to best use deionized water?

Mike, I recently watched your review of the CR Spotless system and am thinking about incorporating it into my wash system...

This of you that use deionized water, do you use it for the entire wash process? Is it beneficial when using a foam cannon, filling wash buckets, scrubbing wheels?

Should I just set up the system and go, or would it be worth the while to set up some sort of filter bypass, so I can use untreated water until say the final rinse?

    Thanks!

That's what I would do as it will extend the life of the resin cartridge.

Yes, I use it for rinse only.

•As mentioned above, for the rinse cycle

    Additionally:
    •When manually cleaning fabrics (carpet/
    carpeted mats/seats/etc.)

    •When operating steamers/extractors

•Since DI water doesn’t contain any “ions”...
    use it when cleaning electronics

Thanks everyone! Have a few friends and they insisted they use it for everything, just seems like a waste of resin... Unit is still in transit (DIC-10) but I will grab a quality Y valve ASAP....

The dealership I worked at we used it for entire wash process.

I have a DI unit (different brand) and I use it the entire wash process. Gentle stream of water for the final rinse from a garden hose to get rid of 80% of water. Forced air dry the large water droplets left. Let the rest evaporate and never any water spots.

We normally only use DI water for the final rinse or also for water to mix with chemicals. Our Meguiar's Glass cleaner seems to work drastically better when mixed with DI water vs tap water.

Great idea! I never even thought of the advantages of using it to dilute chemicals!

    It's for the final rinse.

Also - in the video I shared that the unit comes with a water sprayer that has a SHOWER setting. This is to slow the travel of water through the filters so there is ample amount of time for the resin pellets to extract the nasty stuff out of the water. Too high of a flow of water, for example using the JET setting on a water sprayer and you'll defeat the purpose of the filter.

For those reading this into the future here's the video and "yes" the black Corvette we washed and then let dry in FULL SUN is the real deal and no water spots.
