Looking for Tips on Polishing Pillars and Door Frames
Hi Mike -- I'm gearing up for my first time polishing, and I'll be working on a Honda CRV. I'll be using a Griot's G9 and G8.
As I look over the vehicle, I'm not sure of the proper technique to polish the A-Pillars, the painted frame above the doors, and some narrow areas near the sunroof and rear glass. These areas are only a few inches wide, so I can't do the a normal crosshatch pattern even with the smaller G8 pad. What pattern do I use as I polish these areas? Do you have any tips for navigating the polisher in narrow spaces?
Thank you!

Use whatever pattern to accommodate the area, if it's a long thin area just go back and forth. Make sure to tape any rubber trim in those areas and maintain contact with the paint to avoid polish slinging

Excellent advice by vobro on the taping. And as Mike likes to remind us, you have a smaller polisher built into your large polisher - just tip the polisher so you are only using 1-2" of the pad to get to the narrow areas of the roof and A pillars.
If the A pillars are piano black, I find that finishing pads + polish with get them shined back up.

It is also a good idea to coat the A, B, and C pillars with a coating like CQuartz DLux.
