Particles on buffing pad

Long time lurker and first time poster. I’ve polished a couple vehicles so far and had them turn out alright but I wanted to see if there is always a bit of grit left on the pad after cleaning. I cleaned the heck out of this pad with dish soap in the sink and can’t get the grit out. Any help would be appreciated.

Try dry brushing before washing. You should be doing this anyway after a panel or two. Always work clean.

Totally agree.

Get a pad brush, and use it often during polishing. Also, after the pad is done, spray it with a good pad cleaner (I use McKee's) and agitate it with the brush.

Then throw it in a bucket with an APC or MF detergent solution.

This makes pad cleaning a breeze when you are done.

Newbies especially.

Not sure what kind of cars/trucks you have, but 6 pads would be the minimum I'd use on a car. 8-10 on a full sized truck.

What make and color is your ride?

I actually just got done painting most of the 2006 Silverado. We used single stage paint and it came out pretty good. If I had my way we would have used bc/cc instead. The paint is still a bit soft so I’m going to wait a day.

I’m using a harbor freight DA with Lake Country orange, white, and black pads with M100 and M205. I wet sanded with 1200, 2000, and 3000. The paint is very soft yet though. I’ll get a picture tomorrow. It is black.
