2016 Ford Escape - Tar and Road Grime

I recently purchased a used 2016 Ford Escape. The paint is amazingly clean however, the plastic molding on the bottom portion of the car doors has really baked on road tar and grime. I've tried over-the counter-tar removers, W.D 40, Goo Gone and diesel fuel and nothing is cutting through and removing it. Do you have any suggestions?

    Thank you,

    Gary from PA

Is it textured trim where you have this?

I was one of the viewers and I don't know what is going on on your trim. Since you have clean paint from baked in tar. And if it has not even make a bump in the tar and grime on your trim. It's very strange as this happens for you. And don't think it's tar you have problem with removing. It could be that they have used something very thick of a dressing and locked the tar in maybe.

A picture would be telling us more. One thing that looks like tar spots is artillery fungus. Which is very hard to remove and on paint it's useally a very aggressive clay bar and a plastic razor blade to get them off. And to top it if it's a textured trim it's easy to damage it with both clay bar and a plastic razor blade and chemicals as is in the tar removers is also not so great on them.

Have you looked up how much it would cost you to get new ones? As it's good to know if it goes sideways with getting them back to acceptable looking.

Hope you get it sorted out in some way.

    / Tony
