My windshield is driving me crazy
I have a 2016 Golf R and just don't seem to be able to maintain a "clean" windshield, both wipers chatter as they come the the end of the stroke and change direction unless the rain fall is heavy and it's driving me crazy. After trying many different cleaning products I saw Mike's glass detailing forum using the Pinnacle Glassworks Water Spot Remover, Pinnacle Crystal Clear Glass Cleaner and Pinnacle Window Sealant and thought I'd give it a try.
I followed the steps to the letter (hand polishing) with new factory wipers and it worked great for 2 weeks and then it was back to the chattering, I don't know were to go from here and would try any suggestion.
I've never has this issue on any other car, the Golf was never a problem until year 4 which I find very strange. I clean the car every week with Meguiar's Car Shampoo followed by Blackfire Glass Cleaner (until Pinnacle treatment). I've been driving the same highway during this time presumably gathering the same contaminants. Oddly my wife's 4 year old VW Tiguan does not have this issue and is still on the original wipers.

Any chance that your wiper arms are bent?

I don't think so, last time the car was at the dealers I mentioned this issue but they said everything looked ok.... I did consider bending slightly thinking it would apply more pressure but didn't so anything yet.

Re: My windshield is driving me crazy
The problem may be a bent wiper arm. To make this diagnosis, bring the wiper up to mid-stroke on the windshield and examine the blade assembly. The blades should be making full contact on the windshield and the blade arms should be parallel to the glass. If the arm is bent, use some pliers to carefully twist it until it is parallel with the glass again.
Did this yesterday morning. 100% better! Guess after 6 years, they needed a tweak. Both needed a slight bend downward. You want the rubber part of the blade to move on the downstroke stroke and back the other way on the upward stroke. Had plenty of rain yesterday and they worked great. PUT A CLOTH OVER YOUR WIPER ARM so you don`t scratch the paint on the arm!
Did this when I had my Xterra. Worked like a charm.

Re: My windshield is driving me crazy
You could also take the opportunity to coat your windshield. Something like Aquapel or McKee's glass coating make maintaining the windshield easier.
Glad you resolved the issue.
