Boars Hair Brush REEKS!
I just bought a Montana Boar’s Hair Car Wash Brush Plus and it came in today. I let it soak in a bucket of McKees 37 Power Wash for about 5 minutes while I cleaned my tires and wheels. After I used it while I was washing my truck, I kept thinking I was smelling something dead. I literally opened my hood thinking I could have either hit a squirrel or one got in my engine when I started it. Nothing. When I was picking up, I picked up my new boars hair brush and nearly fell over. I fish and hunt a lot, so I'm used to nasty smells, but this brush literally smells like someone swept up a dead animal with it. Yeah, I know, it's authentic boars hair (I have another one that never smelled at all), but no new product should smell like this.
Has anyone had the same problem? Any recommendations on how to get rid of the smell without ruining the brush? I've used cleaners on my other hand brush and it I didn't rinse it off well and the next time I used it, it shed a lot, so I'm hesitant on what I should soak it in. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

It doesn't take much bleach at all to stop micro-organisms. Literally a drop in a bucket. I'd put like a teaspoon in a gallon of water and just let it soak for 15 minutes. Then let it dry in the sun.

Great recommendation. Sounds like a simple/logical solution. But is bleach pH balanced? Kidding of course

I'm wondering if it's something about that Mckees.

yeah mine stinks to. but it make washing the truck quick & easy. as far as leaving it in the sun to dry, I wouldn't. those bristles get pretty stiff. and I do soak the brush for at least 15 minutes before using. I always do my wheels first & get my truck wash soap ready & that's when I soak my brush. the use of ease out ways the stink.

I had the same issue. After about a week, the odor goes away. I remember the time I first used it. Once I was done, I left in in my garage. The next morning, it reeked!!!

It goes away after you use it. You have to remember the source. Mine was pretty ripe but there is no smell now and it did go away after a series of use/rinse/dry cycles. You have a very good product, don't worry about the smell, unless it persists. I doubt it will.

Thanks guys. I'll use it one more time and let it soak a little longer this time. It the smell is still too bad, I'll try a tiny bit of bleach.

Nope.
Boar's Hair Brushes are the real deal. The smell will go away within a week or two.
