What's the difference between a ceramic coating and a quartz coating
I've seen references to the different types and was wondering what the difference is both technically and overall. Thanks!

Re: What's the difference between a ceramic coating and a quartz coating
I don't know if saying something
twice will make it true; but here goes: The way I look at it is:
•Silica is an oxide of the element of Silicon.
•Quartz's chemical formula is SiO2
(Silica Oxide).
•When thinking about Ceramics:
-Clay comes to mind.
-Clay minerals are Silicates.
Also:
•Ceramics are often made from
materials other than clay, such as:
-oxides...Silica Oxide (SiO2), sound familiar?;
-non-oxides...Silicides;
-oxides/non-oxides combos...polymers<---(OOPS,
how did those get in there!)
•In a nutshell/IMHO:
-All the above materials appear to be "silicon-based"
-Marketers have a (bad) habit of spinning things.

In this episode of the Optimum Podcast, Dr. G explains the difference between Opti-Coat Pro, Gloss coat and other coatings on the market. It is self promoting but also very informative. Optimum Synergy Podcast: Optimum Synergy Podcast 6
