    Mike...What is this technique of restoring Headlights?

    Hi Mike...found this method of headlight restoration on FB, couldn't find anything on web and youtube what technique adopted but results are astonishing and consumes less time, comment the pros n cons

    That looks like "vapor polishing". I never heard of anyone here using that technique. I believe vapor would be pretty volatile.

    Check out flame polishing. I've always wanted to try it on a junk light.

    From what I can tell, the person is using some type of flame to MELT the old oxidized plastic back into the underlying plastic.

    I don't think they are actually burning off the old plastic which in my mind would be better but instead melting the surface which burns up some of the dead plastic while at the same time melting or re-flowing the surface of the plastic to blend it all into one and at the same time turning it clear.

    I'd say go for it!


    At one point when the flame went to the left side, about the 3rd or 4th passes it looks like the flame hits the chrome trim. So maybe tape off around the plastic with lots of tape in-case you don't have the steady hand of a surgeon.


    I'm so glad my classic truck has simple, zero maintenance glass headlights.
