Rupes polishing pads and Rupes compounds confused

Read the thread about Rupes pads not needing to be primed. Is this due to the pads being open cell or is the compound DAT. I can attest to the fact a primed blue pad on the Rupes Nano will sling everywhere. When I used the Nano with 1" pad I didn't even put any on the pad (I smeared on the part and polished away with the 12mm orbital). Much better.

Yeah, with that pad, you want to be very conservative with how much you apply.

When I use that combo on the Duetto, I usually start with four or five small dabs, turn on the machine, and keep the pad in place for a moment to allow the compound to spread out. The compound is formulated to find it's way to the face of the pad should it be forced into the pad when compressed against the paint.

Sometimes I will get a little sling from the blue combo, like I sometimes get sling from a rotary, when using an open cell pad.

Nano in rotary mode slings polish like crazy if you apply too much product, and it's not just the Rupes pads and polishes.

So the open cell pads are to be used without priming, CCS primed and CS pads are primed. As far as the SMAT vs DAT there is no difference.
