If you are looking to clean and give them a great shine at the same time, this stuff will take care of 90% of tips.

Pinnacle Exhaust Cleaner & Brightener (http://www.autogeek.net/pinnacle-exhaust-cleaner-brightener.html)

There are several good reviews of this one on the forum. I admittedly got a sample for free in exchange for reviewing it, but have since purchased another container and my S100 polishing soap collects dust.

And...these guys

Lake Country Exhaust Polishing Sponge (http://www.autogeek.net/lake-country-exhaust-sponge.html)

For very tight spaces a microfiber towel or even just a gloved finger or two.

Or, just read this nice article for more heavy duty work

^agreed!

I've had some really badly damaged exhaust tips where rust and heavy oxidation formed, 0000 steel wool if it gets that bad

I'm going to buck the Pinnacle trend and suggest the Sonax chrome polish. I just started using it and really like it, prior I used Mothers & 1Z metal polish. I think the Sonax cleans faster and looks better. I use old (previously used) yellow foam pads for application and cleaning with the Sonax. Buff off with an old MF.

I use 0000 steel wool with Optimum Metal Polish if they're pretty bad. Sometimes I'll just use a microfiber applicator with the Optimum Metal Polish or I recently bought P21S Polishing Soap and I love that!
