Today I received my new Flex 3401 from local dealer. The guy told me this unit was used for one demo, but otherwise it is new and comes with full 2 year warranty. The problem is i opened the backing plate, and to me it looks somewhat used.

Can you see these pictures and advise, if a new machine could look like this ?

On the left is the original BP, and on right is my new 4 inch backing plate ... I removed and put them together for comparison purposes.

Could it be that the machine (manufactured 04/2015) has been in the logistics long enough to get this kind of dusty ?

Do you think I should not settle for this machine and return it back, or is this acceptable ?

The internals look brand new, the only thing is the felt ring looks odd.

What did you pay ? Did he give you a discount on the only used once demo, or you payed brand new money.

If you paid brand new money, then your not crazy for being a little upset I would too

I paid equivalent to $345 in local currency. He did tell me it was switched on once for a customer view. Also warranted for 2 years.

I am concerned that a "used" machine may give me issues down the line. But if it just has been switched on for a quick demo or so, and the internals are shiny new, I dont mind.

Could someone be funny or stinky about this machine, based on looks?

That felt ring and BP look used plenty times not just switched on, however there is a 2 year warranty.

If you feel like you got a good deal, keep it. Felt ring LOOKS like it might have been oiled which is a good thing. Backing plate has been used more than a demo, but looks perfectly fine. The 3401 is a solid machine. I think you're good to go, unless, you can get a brand new one for a lot cheaper.

I dont think he would reduce the price any further. The stock availability is an issue.

The machine feels good in hand when turned on. I feel that the price was reduced to reflect the condition.

I will try to get a new machine out of him in the same price, else keep the machine.

I'm confident the machine you have is fine. :dblthumb2:

the felt ring and backing plate is going to look like that after some use and i wouldn't worry about it (internals looks new), just make sure it runs without any issues (add some more oil to the felt ring if needed). you can use some canned air and blow out any dust/dirt. congrats on the new purchase!

Congrats on the 3401!

Looks like it was used for more than just turning the machine on for demonstration purposes. I'm sure it was used for actual paint polishing demonstrations judging by the way the factory plate and internals look.

I wouldn't worry about it. Go out and start buffing with it.

I think you are having second thoughts about it already, I would take it back and get a "NEW" one. Then no more "what ifs":xyxthumbs:

I was having second thoughts, but I am at ease now. The machine has 2 years warranty and I did get a discount on the price.

Thanks for stopping by.
