So I got a new nano skin sponge a few months ago as my old one was starting to show some wear. First thing I noticed was that the sponge was a different color blue, and the ridges were lower. I thought nothing of it other then maybe its a new version and marrs less. Well this past weekend while working on a car I broke it out, used on a window first then hit the paint. Its actually pretty soft to the touch as you can see. I noticed it really wasnt doing much, So I grabbed my older one, and found something on the paint and went after it with both.

The new some simply wasnt doing anything at all that I could notice. The car was not that bad in terms of contaminants on the paint.

Something has to be wrong tell me what you guys think.

Left is old one, right is new.

Mine look like your old one. You may have gotten a bad one. Give Nick a shout and I am sure he will help you out!

My Nanoskin wash mitt looks like the left one and my sponge looks like the right one. The sponge seems to work the same.

I had a little orange dot on the white car I was working on, the newer once went back and forth about 15 times with light pressure working my way up to even heavy pressure. It did not come off. Two passes with light pressure using the old sponge took it right off.

Mine looks like the one on the right and I just got it a few days ago. Tried it out and it seemed like it took a lot of pressure to remove the contamination.

Also purchased these to try recently, they look like the one on the right. Performed break in procedure to the letter, never got the slight tackiness its supposed to. Found them to be far from satisfactory and assumed the hype was just that. Interesting to see if perhaps there is an issue with a recent production run of these.

I bought two about a year back. Both fine and medium grade.

Neither of them do a darn thing, total junk IMO, it was money down the drain. I could rub till the cows come home, whereas a clay bar, even the mildest I've used which is the Pinnacle Blue Poly Clay is lightyears more effective.

I'm surely not condemning all of these newfangled Clay Bar Replacements, as these have been all I have tried. But I am leery of ever plucking down cash again, as I worry about similar results.

Thus for the foreseeable future I will continue to use Clays instead.

When I first got one I had poor results too, I was using car wash soap as a lube. I then mixed up some ONR as lube and it worked like it was supposed to.

Mine are 8 months old, look like the one on the left. They work very well. I am pleased with them.

Looks like a bad batch. The new one just appears to be flat.

I used the product that was supposed to be used with it, Glide, and tried two others. Made no difference

Stupid question, but did you do the break-in procedure via glass prior to using on the paint?

If you're asking me, yep, sure did.

And my glass was loaded with crud too. didn't budge none of that either.
