I currently have an entry level DSLR, but I'm considering buying a GoPro. I love the time lapse feature for promoting my detailing projects. They can be waterproof and are nice and compact. Though I will primarily be using it for promoting my detailing, I can also see myself using it for personal use on vacation and such.

I was hoping to keep this purchase under $200, but I'm not sure that will be possible. Currently the GoPro HERO4 Silver is selling in the $300 range. I know the GoPro HERO4 Black edition is the better (or currently the best model?), but it is very similar to the Silver edition and at $400+ it is simply more that I would like to spend.

So I wanted to ask those of you who own a GoPro or have experience with one, are you satisfied with it's performance/reliability? The HERO4 Session and the HERO+ are more in my price range...anyone have any experience with them?

Gopro's are expensive. I am lucky because I got the black edition for Christmas. This could be an option.

I have one. I think they are great. My kids like taking it to the beach and filming under water, and I use it skiing a lot. My brother goes all out with his -- drones, etc. I've taken some drives with my GoPro on my car, and the video is very good. I have the 3+ edition, and the time lapse photography makes really neat videos when you use the GoPro editing software -- it's a snap. Video is high quality as well. You could probably get some off of eeee bay inexpensively at this stage. The Hero 4 Session is obviously the cheapest, but it would probably do most of what the others do.

WOW! Has pretty much the exact same specs as the GoPro HERO4 Silver for half the price!! I am unfamiliar with this brand, but the reviews are very positive on it. Thanks for the link! This is a very tempting alternate option!

Well, now that I started looking around on Amazon, there are a bunch of knock off GoPros! Brands like GeekPro, DBPOWER, ASX, and Campark to name a few. Decisions, decisions.

I like the Sony action cams due to their Video codec
But the gopro has the least distortion on the edges

Reply prime is another good one to check out
