Good evening all. Its been quite sometime since I have detailed a car so I'm full of questions. A little background on the car. My father passed away and left me a 2001 Jaguar XK8 convertible. The car is red and the top is black with white interior. I want to make the car as perfect as possible and am seeking your help. It has bird drop etchings from sitting for several months along with the spider web swirl marks. Nothing appears to be too deep that I have seen. I own a Makita 9227? ( not sure exact model #) and a few detailing products like m105. I am in need of new pads, clay bar and honestly some new product as mine has sat for a few years. I also would like to purchase a foam gun. Money is not really an issue I just want the car to look as good as possible and do it myself as kind of a remembrance thing. Thanks for all your help and letting me know what products I should buy.

Hey, welcome to the forum, great story, great car.

You might want to consider one of the newer generation DA polishers unless you really know how to wield that Makita. There's also some newer products that are perhaps a little more user friendly than M105.

You might want to consider a kit like this:

Wolfgang Rupes LHR 15ES Ultimate Polishing Kit (http://www.autogeek.net/rupes-wolfgang-polishing-kit.html)

Best investment in my rotary Dewalt was a 5 in Flex backing plate and the 5.5 inch Lake Country CCS pads. Get a 2 in or 3 inch Flex backing plate and pads too for small areas. The rotary polisher extensions are so nice to see your work. I really liked the Menzerna compounds and polishes.

Since you already have m105 you could stay with Meguiars too. I've never used 105 or 205, but heard lots of good things. I loved the look of the Blackfire wet diamond sealant. Sealants and waxes are so numerous, that you could spend hours just reading about Meguiar's wax/sealant line. I picked up some $15 Meguiar's carnauba and it looks and works great.

Don't forget to visit Autogeek.net! Get your credit card handy. Watch out it gets addicting.

I love Meguiars products and have dozens. There interior quick detailer works well. Leather cleaner/conditioner is ok and works.

Sorry for the loss of your father. I'm sure he is smiling down on you especially if you are caring for his Jag. Enjoy the car, I'm sure your dad would be happy you are cleaning it up.

Keep us posted on what you purchase and if you have a chance show us your progress on your dad's Jaguar.

Good luck and you'll like it here
