So about 3 years ago I bought my 1988 Mitsubishi Mighty Max from the original owner. It had been maintained very well other than the paint.

I drove it like that for a while then bought another car. When it was stolen I started driving it again and wanted to clean it up.
I used Meguires cleaner wax on it one day for kicks and grins and that brought some color back. I should say that at this point I had not done any more detailing than clay baring and hand waxing.

Not too long after that I started working at Mitsubishi as a detailer. My first day I buffed my truck with some generic swirl remover.

A few weeks after this I let a layer of Meguires no. 7 sit on the paint over night at work. I used that same swirl remover on it again. I don't have any pictures of this.

After i got more comfortable with a buffer and had a little more knowledge (thanks to this forum for the most part) I decided to cut and buff my old single stage paint, topped off with some Meguires gold class wax.

Here's a side by side.

What do you guys think? Keep in mind this is my first paint "restoration". Feed back please

Great job noc. Just keep it up, and please don't hesitate to asking for guidance. That's how I became the expert detailer I am today.:buffing: Good luck and take care.

Peace,

Darrin

Nice work, it looks great! Always nice to see a MM/D50 get some love. I used to have one as well that an acquaintance used to call "the lousy box". I wish we'd get some new mini trucks back in the states. I may just have to import a Mighty Boy at some point.

Nice job and way to make it your own. I noticed that you added tint to the windows from the first time you bought the car. Enjoy the journey, have fun!

Shame what happened with your other vehicle. What was it, if you don't mind my asking.

Do you get hassle with the tint? They don't like tints here in CA.

Also, I prefer the steelies on there. They fit better, IMO.

Interesting.... thanks for sharing.

For anyone reading this thread into the future, here's the original article on restoring single stage paint.

Looks good, keep in mind the dealer detailers do often use improper techniques and often should learn how to maintain paint better, not you necessarily but just the part of the industry

Check out Duragloss 501 as well. It is a chemical paint cleaner and it works great on single stage paints.
