foam backing wool or standard wool pad? (for rotary)

hello there. What's your opinion about foam backing wool pads? Do they cut less than standard pads? Do they help preventing burns and marks or the good old thin pad is still the best?
If yes, what's the function of a backing foam in such type of pad then?
