Hey Guys,

So I bought a polisher kit recently and have been reading online a lot and I have come across people saying 3D Speed is very good.

I got the following in my kit & have not used it yet (still winter here)

SONAX EX 04-06
SONAX EX 04-06 1000 ml. (http://www.autogeek.net/sonax-ex-04-06.html)

I'm wondering is 3D HD Speed is Better and by a lot? Is it worth selling the Sonax I have and buying the 3D HD Speed?

3D HD Speed
3D HD Speed 32 oz. (http://www.autogeek.net/3d-hd-speed-32.html)

Thanks

What type of work are you trying to do? On what type of car? What condition is it in?

There are a lot of factors to consider. Also, the Sonax EX 04-06 you list is a medium grade polish which finishes down nicely, while the HD Speed is an All-In-One polish/wax product. They aren't really the same.

Will you be using some sort of protective product, i.e. wax or sealant, after you polish out the vehicle?

Both are quality options. Both polishes have their own following. I don't use any 3D products, I use Menzerna & Sonax. Some folks don't use either of those and use 3D or Meguires. Use what you like and learn how to use the product. I am sure you would be happy with either brand. What LSP are you going to use?

This will be something I just do on the side for my cars/family/friends so not professionally. This is more for fun as I'm new to all of this. I currently have a Griot's Garage 6" DA.

Currently have
07 VW GTI (Paint is in good conection)
2011 VW Jetta (some minor swirl marks)
1991 GMC Safari (bad shape, lots of scratches/oxidation etc)

Well if the 3D product has wax/sealant built in then I would not apply anything after however for the Sonax I would have to apply some wax after on the cars.

Last Step Protection (LSP). Your wax/sealant/coating of choice.

Not sure what I would use exactly, maybe Chemical Guys Black Light Hybrid Radiant Finish As I currenty still have some left.

however if its built into the 3D product then it will save me time.

Blacklight is actually a glaze which fills in light swirls and marring. An LSP would be a wax, sealant, or coating that is relatively durable in order to protect the paint

I haven't used HD Speed, but I can say that the Sonax is a good polish. I've had very minor problems with finishing down on my ultra soft red Acura paint, but with a little experimentation you can get it pretty well

I've used both,in my mind when you add in cost it's hard to beat the HD line. Since you already have the Sonax ID say use it,it works well

This is true, however now i would have to invest in wax.

I'm starting to lean toward the HD line simply because it will save me a step and I can probably get a good price on their products.

Thanks

One thing to keep in mind: AIO's typically won't last as a dedicated LSP.

I've never used HD Speed, but the Meguiars, Poorboys, and Griots AIO's I've tried served their purpose well, but the protection was very short lived.

An AIO won't last as long as a good standalone LSP.

The protection with Speed is excellent.

OP, key thing, Speed is an all in one. Not a dedicated polish. You get excellent correction to a point but it's not a dedicated polish. It's an excellent one step. I usually top it (LSP) with HD Poxy and it greatly enhances both the gloss and longevity of Speed and it only adds about 30 minutes from start to finish to the over all job. Machine apply and use very little, maybe .5-.75 oz to do a medium sized sedan.

Did this 370Z with HD Adapt and topped with Poxy this past weekend.

Adapt is definitely a polish you want in your arsenal.

After / 95% perfected:

I did this entire vehicle in a little over 5 hours including washing, wheels and quick interior wipe down, 5-6 section passes with Adapt and topped with Poxy with my Griots G21 and 5" bp. Used B & S orange pads (5)

If you top Speed with Poxy you can expect to see 5-6 months protection on a non garaged vehicle w/o using any qd sprays etc. About 3 months with Speed w/o Poxy and these are for Florida middle of the summer conditions.

For car nuts that keep their cars maintained continuously, longevity of protection is irrelevant. You can put a spray wax on every two weeks and never have to even talk about protection or even have a dedicated LSP for that matter. Longevity only matters in winter climates and with car owners that would rather do other things than worry about their cars.
