Hi everyone, I am in Portland, Or, my car just arrived from Alabama after sitting there for 3 years, I finally got it shipped out here.

My car is a white/cream 2008 Chrysler 300 Touring/Limited. I was planning to get it detailed, but the more I read and the more I learned, it made me want to do it myself (both to avoid getting ripped off and to get a quality job; also because i hate being as ignorant as i am about this stuff!)

I spent about a week putting together my list, and finally placed all my big orders this weekend, I plan on basically following this

1) Clean
a) Wash (remove loose dirt, etc)
b) I would use something like APC/APC+ if you are going to clean wheel wells, emblems etc
2) Surface Prep
a) Clay Mild / from consumer line
b) M105 - Flex (speed 5-6) with Yellow Soft Buff 2.0 Foam Polishing Pad
c) M205 - Flex (speed 5-6) with Yellow Soft Buff 2.0 Foam Polishing Pad
d) M205 - Flex (speed 5-6) with Black Soft Buff 2.0 Foam Finishing Pad
3) Polishing
a) M07 - Optional
4) Protect - Wax
a) M21 2.0 - Flex (speed 1) with Black Soft Buff 2.0 Foam Finishing Pad
b) M26 - Flex (speed 1) with Black Soft Buff 2.0 Foam Finishing Pad (optional)

(I dont have a flex, but I am planning to buy a PC today, unless one of you guys can lend me one haha)

Are any of you in the Portland area? I would love to make some friends that I can learn from and maybe share tools/products with. plus if you help me learn this automotive stuff i will help you with pc stuff if you need it ;)

another vote here for tdekany or nick@autowerx

Also I'm near Salem and usually try to make it up to Portland on Sundays (but with the recent weather I haven't been in a few weeks) I can plan on coming next Sunday to show you some stuff.

thanks for the advice! I would certainly love to meet Thomas Dekany, he seems very legit :)

I am primarily interested in doing it myself and learning. I have *pretty much* everything i need chemical-wise on the way, hopefully will be here sometime this week. Where does Auto Geek ships from? California?

BTW, in my research trying to track down D105 locally I did find a place that stocks TONS of pro stuff locally (PBE Warehouse near 58th, no signs, no yelp, very low key but huge), but they are only wholesale and one of their guys was extremely rude, so I wont be bothering to register as a customer

And FTA, I would very much appreciate that :) my work is really flexible so I can work around whenever you are available. I would relish the opportunity to learn from some of you guys :) I am a fast learner, pay close attention, and have been reading a bunch.

I have lots of tech/pc/networking/3d printing equipment, and will gladly help with anything like that and also share my equipment with my friends. also good at heavy lifting, and general lending a hand

I am probably going to buy the PC 7424xp from someone today, unless I can find someone who is willing to lend me a DA polisher (PC, Flex, Griots, etc.; I would of course leave a deposit) and get started when my supplies come in some time this week

Unfortunately I have to finish a car that is looking a little worse than I thought, so Thursday is the day. Sorry Pugdog

While it won't help you with this order, if you place a decent size order in the future be sure to put west coast shipping in the comment box. They'll upgrade you to quicker shipping for free. Not sure what the minimum is, there's a thread about it which tells you. I'm in So Cal, and I know it cuts my shipping time in half.

No worries :) I just appreciate the opportunity to learn from someone as knowledgeable as yourself, I am very much looking forward to it. I was sick Thursday but I have bounced back now. let me know whenever works for you and I will make the trip
