It's a polish. One can even say it's the Ultimate polish. :)

Definitely a Polish. It will remove light defects, not simply cover them up.

Taking the liberty of using Meguiar's "detailing
terminology" to describe the purpose of their products...
Ultimate Polish (UP) is a Paint Cleaner.

That is to say:
It is a liquid product that contains abrasives
(mild abrasives in UP's case) used in the process
of removing below surface paint defects.

Note:
This definition of "paint cleaning" is not to
be confused with vehicle washing, and/or
claying processes. These are use to remove
above/(bonded to) surface paint defects.

Staying with the Meguiar's Brand:

As mentioned above...
•Polishes are paint cleaners (contains abrasives)

•Glazes...
-Originally formulated for fresh paint
during its cure-time

-Also used on cured/hardened paint by
many people at Car Shows, Museums, etc.

-Sometimes used on "very thin" paint
(Instead of using an abrasive paint-cleaner)

-It's often considered as an optional step.

-Enhances gloss (via "polishing oils")

-(Usually) Contains no abrasives
Ex: M07, Deep Crystal Polish (pure polishes)

-Some Glazes do contain abrasives. If so:
They are then called Cleaner/Polishes...contains
both cleaning agents (abrasives) and "polishing oils"

-Must be followed by an LSP (Wax, Sealant, Coating)
Note: one exception is Meguiar's M305.

Hope this helps.

Nice summation, Bob!

In addition, I really think Ultimate Polish is an underrated product. Super easy, almost fun to use, great results, great gloss.. It also smells fantastic.

I prefer using it with the Blue buff and shine, or green Lake Country ccs pads.

Microfiber pads yield even more correction.

Here is the results of me stressing UP to it's limits against 2000 grit sanding marks using the blue b&s pad, and porter cable 7424xp.

Big fan of the Meguiars Ultimate Compound, Ultimate Polish, and Ultimate wax.
It mat be considered a retail line of product, but certainly can produce professional results.

The Ultimate stuff is good stuff, used UP today on a detail and it came out really glossy, forgot how good it is and how pleasant it smells.
