Hello,
[I am new to the forums, I've read and purchase products based on posts here, thanks]

I live in a city where the water restriction prohibits car washing at home. Besides the fact that I'd like to wash the car myself, I already spent quite a bit of money buying the car to turn around and pay extra every week or every other week for car washing (and I am talking about of a detailer, not a car wash machine, so it can add up $$).

When I wash my car, I'd like to use the 2 bucket system. I could take it to a DIY commercial place where they have the water pressure sprayers and it would almost work. The issue is that I wouldn't be able to use a foamaster foam cannon as the fitting doesn't work, and I feel that's a very crucial key to keeping the car swirl free (or at least limit the amount of swirl).
As time goes by, I am afraid I'll have water spots already because it has been a number of days without the car being washed.

I do have a friend that lives in-between cities that I could do it, but I'd rather not inconvenience him.

Any thoughts/ideas? Is there a way to plug in the foam cannon to the commercial water pressure sprayer or something?

thanks

Ok, first I have to say, you shouldn't get water spots from the car not being washed, unless it is getting sprayed by sprinklers, etc. That's not to say that you can't get some sort of etching in the shape of water droplets from collection of contaminants in those spots.

Because you haven't brought it up, I'm presuming you're not familiar with rinseless washing? This could be a great solution for your problem. Depending on the wording of your car washing restriction ordinance, it might be something that you have to do in your garage--do you have a garage available?

You can still use a two bucket method, or the "use once" towel method, and probably will use about 2.5 gallons of water, less with the "use once".

I agree, you need to go rinseless. Do it in the garage, or even in the driveway you won't drip more than a quart of water on the ground. I use ONR with a optimum big red sponge doing mine. Get a gamma seal lid for one of your existing buckets and the rinseless solution will keep for a couple washes.

He could be ticketed in the driveway depending on how the law/ordinance is worded. Sometimes they say no washing, with no modifiers. Sometimes it's no open hoses, no fresh water (gray water only), etc. etc. Also depends who is doing the enforcement, what your neighbors are like, etc.

Rinseless in the garage is the perfect solution. More convenient too.

I am not "supposed" to wash either.

So I just park them on my backyard lawn and wash them whenever I want. nice green lawn too.

Thanks for the replies.

Setec, I do have a garage available, and I knew just a little bit of the rinseless wash - I had actually bought the Ultima Waterless wash concentrate (http://www.autogeek.net/ultima-waterless-wash-concentrate.html), now with your links to the videos, I know much better. Thanks.

One question after viewing many of the waterless wash videos around, it seems like it is better to have a bottle spray of the same mix to spray the area before doing the wash right? (I noticed that Mike Phillips did not do this).

UWW is an excellent rinseless wash.

I always pre spray before rinseless washing. It serves the same purpose as using a foam gun, loosen dirt and lubricate before washing. Was Mike going to correct the paint after washing? If so he may not have been worried about any minor marring knowing it would be removed when polishing.
