i bought a gallon of D114 during that recent 25% off, free shipping promo.

i wanted to try it because it's purported to leave nothing behind. my usual rinseless is ONR, which i have been using for years. ONR is "clean" enough to use prior to coating, but it's evident to me that it leaves something behind. maybe not by design, but if D114 is the rinseless version of Reset, more or less, then that would be somewhat useful to me.

i used four gallons of warm water and four ounces of product, as prescribed by the label. i use softened water but it has trace solids so it will spot if left to dry. media was 10 600 GSM 16x16 towels. i normally don't do a rinseless that way, but i have the towels, they don't get used, so i figured why not. i was surprised that D114 seems somewhat soapy. it has suds. i am not used to that with a rinseless. however, this behavior didn't seem to be an issue during use. i purposely washed the truck (coated with Opti-Coat Pro) during a time of day where the sun would be on it. D114 definitely will streak, even if out of the sun, but it's VERY easy to fix that with another pass and then immediate drying. i used a Dry Me Crazy towel and decided to blot vs. anything else because this product isn't slick. this truck recently underwent a Reset/Power Clean wash so it was the default "squeaky" clean of original Opti-Coat Pro, not slick. so, D114 seemed to keep it that way.

i didn't wear gloves and i found it to make my hands feel the same as they do when doing an extended ONR wash - slightly dried out but nothing crazy. D114 is a decent mild scent. barely noticeable and pleasant.

going back to the water type, i think that this definitely has a buffering or softening effect on water. i guess by design, as a rinseless, it would have to, but i wasn't sure about that until i used it. it didn't spot when drying, just streak or smear if left to dry on its own without at least some sort of drying attempt. that's ideal imo.

i used four gallons of warm water and four ounces of product...

As far as I know:
The above 1:128 dilution ratio is Meguiar's
recommendation for a Waterless-wash solution.
Note:
Meguiar's recommends 1:256 for RW.

but if D114 is the rinseless version
of Reset, more or less...

That's new.
Never heard of D114 being compared to Reset:
In any way, form, or fashion.

the back of the bottle says add 1 oz of product to 1 gallon of water in a bucket. that is for rinseless. unless they messed up on the label or have since changed their recommendation. i watched the video with MP and the Meguiar's guys and they also had a 1 oz/1 gallon ratio for rinseless; they added 4 gallon bottle capfuls to 2 gallons water and did a rinseless wash.

as far as the Reset comparison, i say that regarding result. Reset doesn't have any shine or gloss enhancement built it. it's meant to clean without leaving anything behind and thus, leaving your coating bare. same here with D114, though it's obv rinseless vs. regular. the fact that it can be richened up to be a panel wipe is intriguing and backs up the usefulness of this stuff vs. the competition.

The video you reference also talks about
D115, and its very own dilution ratio for a RW.

As a clay lube, the standard dilution ratio also works quite well."[unquote]

From the 114 product page, Im not near my bottle to check it but I always heard 1oz to 2 gal also

"Meguiars Rinse Free Express Wash is formulated to protect all surfaces as it cleans them. It helps prevent scratching of paintwork, metals, and plastics. This is an outstanding product for people looking for a way to clean their vehicles when they cannot perform a traditional car wash. City dwellers or people living in water-restricted areas will get a lot of use out of Meguiars Rinse Free Express Wash. It's also fantastic for car washing in the garage during the winter.

Surfaces cleaned with Meguiars Rinse Free Express Wash are paintable because it contains no silicones. The formula is biodegradable and safe on every vehicle surface.

Meguiars Rinse Free Express Wash can be diluted 1 oz. to 2 gallons of water to make a slick rinseless wash. Use it to wipe down the interior and exterior of your vehicle any time!"

welp maybe Megs will clear it up because the bottle definitely says 1 oz per gallon in a bucket. and in the vid, they def poured 114 in the same ratio for the rw. he said "2 gallon yield, so four caps, which is a 128:1 ratio"

that might have had something to do with the soapy steez i experienced.

My bottle shows the same thing. It was also quite sudsy

Yeah, the jug does say "Add one ounce per gallon to achieve the desired solution". Then it also says to immediately wipe dry.

I agree, it you let it run it'll streak. But drying will fix that. I've experimented with 128:1, 192:1 and 256:1. Somewhere in the middle isn't bad for medium amount of dust, and cleans windows well too. I've done 256:1 then add alcohol to make a 20% or 30% solution for home brew panel wipe for a couple years now that works great. ;)

Same here. I first posted about it and met some resistance but it didn't take long to catch on. I have since increased the ratio and typically use 2 ounces D114 mixed in a 32 ounce bottle of 25-30% IPA solution.

do you guize do this because it adds some lubrication to the whole thing, so it's sort of like a bootleg Eraser?

sounds intriguing.

I've also been wondering if IPA could be added to make it winter WW to prevent it from freezing. But, I wonder if the evaporation once it's on the surface would speed the freezing.

I've been looking for a cheaper pre wax cleaner. What ratios are you guys using with the IPA, water, and D114?

For me... a much cheaper Eraser alternative! :)

Can't say I'd ever go 2oz to 32oz, just too much. Remember... it WILL leave visible streaks @ 128:1 (if not immediately wiped off).

I've settled pretty much at 192:1 when making a 30% alcohol solution... or 256:1 with a 20% solution.

IMHO... The stronger (30% alcohol) solution benefits from a bit more 114 for lubricity. IOW's... it doesn't streak, and it cleans the surface of oils from even Menzerna products. ;)

"We should clarify something, however, regarding dilution ratios: recommended dilution ratio is 1 ounce of D114 to two gallons of water.

The instructions on the initial run of labels state a 1 ounce per gallon dilution ratio, but we are adjusting that down for routine use".

I am surprised that I have part of the initial run. It has been out quite a while and I just bought it
